10 Reasons Why it’s Worth Investing in a Professional Brand + Web Designer

Hiring a professional designer can be a big investment for any small business owner and not one to be taken lightly. I see so many entrepreneurs fretting over whether it will be worth the investment. There seems to be a recurring theme of being scared to part with their money in case something goes wrong. Call me biased being a professional designer ‘n’ all but to me, investing in your business is a no-brainer and exactly that - an Investment. Yep, sure it's scary and you have to part with your money in the short-term but from my experience that investment more than pays for itself over and over, as long as you do your research and make sure they’re a good fit. The benefits to having a professional online presence are pretty endless but I'll try and keep it brief today and cover off the 10 key points I have around the benefits that hiring a professional brand and web designer will bring to your creative business.

Before we dive in, I will caveat this post by saying although I truly believe there is so much value in hiring a pro designer no matter what stage you’re at in your business…if you’re just starting out maybe you aren’t in a position to invest yet. DIY-ing and getting some basic bits done just to get you started could be the best option for you. Learn more about how to DIY your brand here.

Right, let’s get back to the benefits that hiring a professional brand and web designer will bring to your creative business….

So, here we go:

1 | A professional brand & web designer can bring your business credibility

So, picture the scene you're looking to get a new kitchen fitted so you make a start by doing some research on good old Google and look for different kitchen fitters in your local area. The first site you find is confusing to navigate, the messaging isn't clear, the images don't really showcase the products or give you a feel for the quality. There are no clear calls to action or anywhere that you can reach out and make contact. There are no pictures of anyone faces so you can't really make any personal connections to anyone. The website copy is pretty poorly written and again, doesn't really communicate the details of the service or what's involved.

The second site you visit is a whole different story. The first thing you see is a big, bold statement image with a simple, clear headline that instantly communicates exactly what the company does and what makes them unique. The copy is engaging, and the layout of the site is clean, minimal and very easy to navigate. There are clear call to action buttons directing you to find out more information and there’s an option to book a free consultation call. There's also a meet the team page with professionally taken headshots and simple bios showcasing the team’s expertise.

Now let's be real, which site would you go with?

2 | A professional brand & web designer can build trust

If you were to hire a professional web designer to build your new website (just like the kitchen fitter site above), you'll be instantly forming trust with every visitor that lands on your site. Having a professional looking website can suggest you’re invested in your business. If you're willing to invest and put the money in to have a professional web designer build your site, then that, in turn, can build confidence and trust in your customers to invest in you too.

3 | A professional brand & web designer can help you stand out from the crowd

You’ve probably heard this all before, but good design and branding is so much more than just a pretty logo. I would say that good design goes hand-in-hand with intention and strategy. When you work with a good designer, you'll be encouraged to dig really deep into the who, what and why of your business and brand. When I work with my clients, I’ll send them two questionnaires. One of which is designed to form a deep understanding of their dream clients, the second questionnaire is based around brand and design and will give both me and the client a really clear understanding of their brand vision. These questionnaires will form the foundations of their brand. I’ll also go on to establish some key brand buzzwords and create a mood board which will help to pinpoint their unique selling points and brand personality. It's these details and foundational strategies that can so often be missed out when you go down the DIY route instead of hiring a professional designer. This strategy will be the backbone to your brand and will enable you to really showcase your unique selling points and truly engage with your dream clients on a personal level. Trust me, this can be an absolute game-changer for your business.

4 | A professional brand & web designer can make your business memorable

Us humans are very visual; we remember things by their appearance.

A cohesive, well-designed brand gives your audience a mental picture of your business and helps them remember it.

‘Nuff said!

5 | A professional designer can bring familiarity to your brand

Branding has an effect on a business's non-customers, too. People who have encountered your business on social media, advertisements, and other outlets are more likely to recommend you to others, even if they haven't experienced your business firsthand.

6 | A professional designer can showcase your personality

A strong, well designed brand adds personality to your business by giving it a consistent set of traits. For example, the personality of the Apple brand is clean, minimal, modern and innovative. When your brand has personality, you’ll stand out from the crowd and become more memorable.

7 | A professional designer can communicate quality

Your brand is always sending a message to your potential customers, whether you realise it or not. A thoughtful, well-designed brand gives off a message of quality and intent. But a pieced-together, inconsistent brand could be sending people the message that you haven't put much thought into the details.

8 | A professional designer can bring clarity to your messaging

A potential customer's attention span is low, and you don't have long to catch a buyer's eye. A successful brand gives people a concise, accurate definition of your business in a short amount of time. A good brand and web designer has all the tools and expertise to achieve that.

9 | Working with a designer can reduce stress and overwhelm

Designing for yourself is not easy and it takes a lot of time to create something you’re really proud of. Believe me, I’m a professional designer and designing my website and brand was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done! Outsourcing stressful, time-consuming tasks like this can really help you to ditch the overwhelm and get back to doing what you do best.

10 | Working with a designer will save you time (and £££)

Point 9 pretty much sums this one up really! Plus, hiring a designer will save you a hella lot of time in the long run. And time = £££££££.

I could go on but you get the idea! I truly believe that investing in a designer can be one of the best decisions you could make to transform your business.
